Support my challenge for Australian hearts

This October, I’ll be doing my personal best to raise funds to support The Heart Foundation.

I’m going to conquer 42 km to raise funds for heart disease research that will help save lives.

Help me help!

As I lace up my running shoes and prepare to join the lifesaving marathon for heart disease, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey that brought me here. It's a journey that began with a collapse at the end of a marathon finish line, and it's a journey that has led me to become a symbol of resilience and hope.

The day I collapsed, I thought my racing days were over. The finish line was in sight, and I could feel the excitement building within me. But then, in an instant, my world went dark, and I crumpled to the ground. I was fortunate that there were trained medical professionals nearby who acted swiftly to revive me. That experience was a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictability of heart disease.

But I refused to let that moment define me. Instead, I chose to turn it into a turning point. With the guidance of my doctors, I received an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a device that would monitor and regulate my heart's rhythm. It was like having a guardian angel by my side, ready to step in if my heart ever faltered again.

As I continued my journey, I gained a new appreciation for life's preciousness. I learned to cherish every step I take and every heartbeat I feel. And I realized that I could use my story to inspire others to take charge of their heart health.

Now, as I stand at the starting line of this marathon, I carry with me not only the memory of that collapse but also the strength and resilience that emerged from it. My ICD serves as a constant reminder of the second chance I've been given and the importance of raising awareness about heart disease.

Today, I run not only for myself but for everyone affected by heart disease. I run to prove that it's possible to overcome adversity and come out stronger on the other side. And I run to remind others that they have the power to take control of their heart health and make a difference in their lives.

So, as I take those first steps toward the finish line of this lifesaving marathon, I do so with gratitude in my heart and determination in my stride. My journey may have started with a collapse, but it's a journey of resilience, hope, and a commitment to making every heartbeat count.
