I'm participating in my first marathon: here's why

Hi everyone, this October, I'll be participating in the Heart Foundation marathon, in honour of my Dad.

I can hear him laughing now, saying, "you couldn't run out of sight on a dark night." The last time I ran was to catch the last train from Central after a night out, but I'm going to dust off my sneakers and give it a go.

While I'm raising money for heart disease research, my main goal is to raise awareness. I want everybody reading this to book in for a heart health check with their GP. I want everybody to urge their partner and their parents to do the same.

Don't shrug it off saying, "oh but I exercise all the time," or, "I don't smoke, so my heart is fine." My Dad was fit and healthy his entire life. He had no warning signs.

So while I would appreciate your donations, I would appreciate it even more if you sent me a message while you're waiting in the doctor's office, or after you've nagged your parents into booking an appointment.

TL;DR: Stop being a hero. Get your damn heart checked.

I’m doing my personal best for Australian hearts, in honour of my Dad.

This October, I’ll be doing my personal best to raise funds for Australian hearts.

I’m going to complete a marathon (42.2 kilometres) to raise funds for lifesaving heart disease research.

I’ve signed up for MyMarathon because I want to show my support for the thousands of men and women living with heart disease in Australia. I want to do something to help.

You can too!

Join me in supporting Aussie hearts by making a donation to my page, right here and now.

Together, we can win the race against heart disease.

I don't think I'd have the physical & emotional strength to do something this commendable, so proud of you. Sending my donation in memory of my own father, Paul Leslie Page, also lost to undiagnosed heart disease earlier this year.
