Help us support our loved ones living with heart disease
This October, RLSA team members are going to complete a marathon (42.2 kilometers) to help raise funds for lifesaving heart research.
We’ve signed up for MyMarathon because we want to show our support for people living with heart disease and contribute to Heart Foundation medical research.
Sadly, members of our RLSA team, Nicole & Corey are touched by cardiac conditions due to their family history. Nicole's Father Brian has survived Cardiac Arrest and their Cousin, Ang is sadly currently in heart failure waiting for a heart transplant under the age of 40. Ang's Mother, Mary has previously sadly passed away from Heart Failure.
Did you know that Heart disease killed 17,533 Australians in 2018 or about 48 people every day and is the leading cause of Australian deaths?
Ischaemic heart disease is also the leading cause of death among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The donations we receive will help fund lifesaving heart research that makes a real difference to people’s lives including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We’re competing as a team because there’s strength in numbers – the more team members we have, the bigger impact we can make to health and research. But we can’t do it alone. You can support us by joining our team and completing a marathon with us, or by making a donation.
On a personal note, Nicole & Corey would love to show their support for Angela while she awaits her transplant and would love as many people to join us as possible.
